On June 7, 2024, Simone and I performed a live, improvised sonic set at Hear Here presents: Audiopollination London, hosted at Forest City Gallery. Together, we composed a sonic journey through natural ambient sounds, experimental materials, and live interactions, exploring the possibilities of making sound together.
Central to my contribution was an experiment with graphite, paper, and a MIDI controller, exploring how the movement of making marks might be translated into sound. As with improvisation, some things went wonderfully, while others went unexpectedly wrong. I had misjudged the configuration through which graphite marks on paper would become sound. What I had imagined as footsteps and flutters emerged instead as scratchy static.
The audio above is an attempt at redemption, a return to the experiment and an opportunity to revisit the sounds that did not quite materialize during the live performance.
